Incident
Investigation -- Tips, Techniques & Trivia
I’m revamping my newsletter to carry just a single item,
either an Investigation Tip, Technique or on occasion a bit
of Trivia. It will publish twice monthly on the 1st and 3rd
Tuesdays.
A client has asked me to convert my Incident Investigation and
Analysis course to an electronic version to be delivered over
the web or through an internal network system.

program? Please call.

Interviewing
Tip
When
interviewing a witness try drawing the key events of their story
on a time line. Using “sticky notes” is a good way
of doing this. “What happened first, what happened next?”
This takes the focus off the individual, reduces finger pointing
and lets both parties focus on the facts.
It also reduces the potential for someone providing a less than
truthful account of the incident as now their facts should match
with both the physical evidence from the scene and other witness
accounts.
When people
see their "facts" being written down on a "sticky
note" and then have to review them with the interviewer at
the end of the interview, they are more likely to stick to the
facts!
